Job description

The Sport/Tech Reporter position is a new role, working on two very well-respected brands in the TV production sector. It’s a very varied role offering great scope to work across a multitude of outputs, including online, print, conferences and events. As the Sport/Tech Reporter on Broadcast Sport and Broadcast Tech, you will be responsible for sourcing and writing distinctive and informative daily news stories about sport production and the creative use of technology in TV. You will publish your stories to the Broadcast Sport and Broadcast Tech websites, share them on the brands’ social media channels and work to grow the reach of your content. You will also write feature articles for the quarterly Broadcast Sport and bi-annual Broadcast Tech print magazines.


As well as writing and reporting, you will be actively involved in a series of events curated by the Broadcast Sport and Broadcast Tech teams throughout the year. These include conferences, exhibitions and the annual Broadcast Tech Innovation Awards. You will attend these events and become a recognised ambassador for the sport and tech brands. As such, a regular part of your day-to-day role will be working with the Broadcast Sport and Broadcast Tech commercial teams on developing and devising bespoke content such as webinars, roundtable discussions and client pitches.


The role requires creativity, great writing and research skills and the ability to network effectively with a wide range of companies and individuals working in sports and television production and technology.


Job duties & responsibilities


  • Write and publish daily sport tech/production/broadcast stories on Broadcast Sport online, and TV tech/post-production/VFX stories on Broadcastnow
  • Write and research features for Broadcast Sport and Broadcast magazines (a total of six magazines a year)
  • Promote stories online across Broadcast Sport and Broadcast Tech social media platforms
  • Generate ideas for editorial, content and events for both Broadcast Sport and Broadcast Tech
  • Represent Broadcast Sport and Broadcast Tech at trade shows and events throughout the year. This will include some international travel and occasional out-of-hours work


Commercial responsibilities

  • Work closely with Broadcast Sport and Broadcast Tech commercial teams across conferences
    (including the Media Production and Technology Show and the Broadcast Tech Fest series of events),
    trade shows and bespoke commercial content
  • Play a key role in growing existing and creating new products with the sport and tech commercial teams
  • Attend client meetings with the commercial teams to grow editorial and commercial relationships


Person specification
  • At least 2 years writing/reporting experience in B2B or consumer publishing, ideally in sport or tech
  • Experience at liaising with stakeholders on commercial content
  • Experience chairing panels at conferences and working on content for events (desirable, but not essential)
  • A genuine drive and ambition to become an expert in the production of sport and tech for TV/online platforms
